on January 5, 2008Bill: That was the 1958 Thrill Show.
Also, the 1958 Ford Patrol rig pictured (which was the newest one) was sold to Skokie F. D. and was converted to a Salvage-Rescue Squad (the orginal Skokie F. D. "Squad 1") after the Patrol disbanded in June 1959, and a deck gun was added.
Five other salvage apparatus (1949-50 Fords) owned by the Fire Patrol were sold to the Lombard, Markham, Midlothian, Rolling Meadows, and Villa Park fire departments after the Patrol disbanded.
Last Patrol Firehouses (1959):
100 S. Des Plaines (opened in December 1927) - Patrol 1 & 2
5004 S. Union (opened in August 1938) - Patrol 3 & 4
1044 N. Orleans (opened in May 1926) - Patrol 5
3107 W. Fullerton (opened in January 1931) - Patrol 7
Both Patrol 8 (3921 N. Ravenswood - opened in June 1922) and Patrol 9 (6240 N. Peoria - opened in April 1923) were taken out of service during the height of the Great Depression on January 1, 1933, but the 36 patrolmen who were laid-off were hired by the Century of Progress Fire Department at the World's Fair
Patrol 6 (332 S. Hoyne - opened December 1893) was taken out of service in December 1942.
