8-12-06 Still Alarm 9000 Higgins
Had occasion to see an interesting job today..I awoke to hear Rosemont report a fully involved building in the 9000 block of Higgins...CFD was also responding but I believe Rosemont arrived first..The fire was in a caretaker's home inside the Polish National Church and cemetery complex..Water was a definite issue here...the inline operation involved 2 departments and 3 engines...Rosemont dropped every inch of hose off their engine..then engine 119 took up the leadout...then eng 86 completed the final stretch to the Chicago hydrant at the intersection of East River Rd and Higgins...I estimate the distance to be about 1/3 of a mile..they knocked down the fire with the booster tanks from Rosemont and CFD engine 11...and while the inline operation was being established handpumps and a garden hose were used to start overhaul..you can see the handpumps in use in some of the photos..total response included CFD 11 119 86 Trucks 9 55 57 Squad 7 272 A2 A20 BC11 BC8 in addition to 2 Rosemont Engines and a Rosemont Tower..Of course access for photographers involved parking 1/2 mile away and waddling in..I am getting too OLD/Fat for this kinda thing!!!
